Marketing to Millennials or to Peeps?
Peep culture is weird. That’s why everybody likes to talk about it so much!
I liked the following quotes from The Peep Diaries:
Peep is a hybrid phenomenon. It’s a combination of hyper-individualist excess, cutthroat capitalist self-preservation, longing for lost community, and our inherited hardwired need to make sense of life through narrative.
So, if you know someone who can’t put down their phone or who can’t stop talking about facebook’s weirdness you should tell them to stop playing with their phone or to quit complaining at to read The Peep Diaries.
It’s a more introspective/cultural critique of how communication and media technology are changing our society than the more historical/journalistic review of blogging that is covered in Say Everything, another great book.
I think that marketers will start to talk about peeps more an Millennials less. Marketers are also going to have to target certain peep subcultures differently than other peep subcultures.
