How to learn facebook for marketing

  • know the difference between a profile, fan page, and a group
    • profiles are for people–
      • you can add your blog’s rss feed through your notes
      • you can add post to facebook with tumblr, brightkite, posterous, etc.
    • pages are for brands and famous people with more than 5,000 friends
      • pros: customizable facebook page guide
      • cons: you can’t direct message your fans, people can hide you, and facebook makes ad money from your content (not you).
    • groups are for groups of people
      • pros: you can send direct messages to group members
      • cons: you can’t customize group pages that much
  • get a vanity url (facebook.com/dmhoro).  You need lots of fans to customize your page’s username (also at facebook.com/username)
  • search facebook “posts by friends” and “posts by everyone”
  • promote your page or group with an ad and monitor it
  • monitor traffic to your page
  • facebook connect
